Abstract painting by Lauren Gohara of growing number of women in Congress over last 100 years
Suffragettes Rising
Oil and alkyd on canvas
18 x 18 inches

“Suffragettes Rising” depicts the rise in the number of women in the House of Representatives over the last 100 years. While the suffragettes wore white, the jagged bright red rising from the bottom draws on the intense, saturated colors women in Congress like Nancy Pelosi have worn, in sharp contrast to the near-uniform grey suits of male members of Congress.
